The rebuild kept WWIII from happening another couple decades later and rehabilitated several despotic countries drunk on their own brand of patriotism. It was the real winner of WWII.
It was defeated by rebuilding the country afterwards. A lesson we learned from the aftermath of WWI that seems to have been forgotten.
