It’s a part of current flare up of the conflict which began on October 7th 2023 after the Hamas attack on Israel, although the Israel-Palestine conflict as a whole has been ongoing for decades.

Scholars have identified Israel’s actions as genocide because the actions they have taken are consistent with actions that would be associated with trying to eliminate an entire people. Indiscriminate killing, withholding and blocking of aid, targeting hospitals, cutting electricity, and general dehumanisation.

I’d honestly respect people more if they just admitted to being social democrats or liberals instead of trying to be this halfway house thing of socialism/communism with liberal democratic characteristics. Very common here on Lemmy.

As far as I can tell, the tankies are the ones whose ideas line up most closely with real world communist organisations. I can’t think of any serious communist parties that are anti-China, anti-USSR, pro-NATO, and so on.

Tell us what a non-authoritarian leader of Venezuela would look like to you and how they would resist the constant pressure and hostile actions of the US government, because it seems to me that leftist leaders are always denounced as authoritarian by North American and European based NGOs and governments.

The only way to avoid being labelled as authoritarian is to be friendly to the imperial core countries, i.e. being capitalist.
