  • I’m a bit tired but I don’t wanna forget to respond to you since you seem to ask in good faith. I’d say it depends on context, but generally a liberal is either someone who believes in liberal democracy (which includes conservatives, at least those who believe in elections and don’t necessarily want fascism) or someone who believes in reformism as a possible way to transform a country (which includes well meaning people that we generally like, but we strongly disagree with in theory and praxis).

Don’t get me wrong, we would love to be able to vote a better person and fix everything through electoralism, but we don’t believe that’s possible since 1) you generally need to appeal to corporations and billionaires to run a campaign to begin with, 2) even if you elected a perfect leader that cares about the people and is incorruptible, the US government would just remove them (both within the US itself and outside), 3) but if somehow your perfect leader endures, they’ll die someday anyway, and liberal democracies are unable to keep the concessions for the workers long term, see at welfare deteriorating in many European countries. We generally see revolutions as necessary for meaningful progress, and we don’t believe in liberal democracies actually representing the will of regular people, but rather the will of the rich, since elected people can just ignore their voters anyway in most cases, and propagandizing and lying to voters is extremely common.

  • Not quite that, but liberals (who frequently identify as leftist) do tend to have blind trust in western aligned media despite the constant lies when it comes to geopolitics. I’ve seen many liberals that I otherwise respect express happiness about the kidnapping while simultaneously saying the US is doing something bad either because it’s a precedent or because it can turn into an all out war. And I get it, but you don’t both sides this kind of thing. The US has killed countless Venezuelans already with sanctions, and recently murdered fishermen and now bombed other Venezuelans. The Trump administration is also threatening other countries in the region and he’s recently meddled in at least a few elections, going as far as stealing the one in Honduras. Our governments don’t need to be perfect to deserve sovereignty and respect.

  • They’re right when it comes to politicians though. They both cater to billionaires and corporations, they both support bombing random ass countries, they both support sanctioning Cuba, etc. Not shaming anyone who votes for liberals, because they’re less bad domestically, but even then they’re constantly moving right, now throwing trans people under the bus and such.

In terms of ideology, both believe in capitalism and US hegemony first and foremost.

I’d argue liberal voters are more likely to be decent people, but their politicians aren’t very different, and that’s normally what we think when we talk about just how similar they are. Hell, even among liberal voters I find their support for the US military appalling.
