If it makes you feel better, when I was a kid, the mouse of my first computer used to go through a serial port, and a keyboard through a parallel port. Dot Matrix printers also used parallel ports. The good old times of the intel 386/486 models.

What distro did you use? Don’t tell me you used Arch Linux… That’s not beginner friendly at all.
I’d advise you to use Mint or Ubuntu (preferably the first). When I have NVidia drivers I usually used one that is install through “additional drivers” app, because those are the ones which were tested for your distro. But if you have a really new GPU, there might be an issue because devs weren’t able to update the drivers and test them.
