AI could never

Something something fishhook

An AI would spend more in compute hacking my bank account then it would get from draining it.
Anna’s Archive is a nice option if u dont mind a pdf
Not sure what this is referencing lol
I don’t really spend money on the internet. I’ll order a physical item if I can’t find it irl but other than that I never participate in the internet economy. If I want something I find… other ways… to get it. Or I just don’t have it. Big whoop.

“A MINOR SETBACK ON THE PATH TO THE SINGULARITY!” -

Well according to this article the cops don’t really give a fuck about what is or isn’t legally protected so why should anyone else?

You can also take advantage of it a bit on other distros if your gaming because Lutris lets you use CachyOS’s proton build on anything. And that works very nicely.

I would bet real money the way you broke Debian testing is that your boot filled up and initramfs didn’t generate correctly, and then your rebooted and it wouldn’t boot. Am I correct?

It’s microsoft. If AI didn’t have a hand in this I’ll eat my dirty socks for dinner.

Ironically security is one of the single most commonly used excuses for companies and governments to violate your privacy. Sorry microsoft, you can’t scan all my files. Womp womp.

I’d turn that right back around on you. Why not take lessons from those things? Fossil fuels have done horrible damage to the environment and factory automation has caused major labor relations problems in certain countries. But do you know what they both also have in common with AI? The problems OVERWHELMINGLY come from the top 1% wealthiest people/companies using them. Climate change is not caused by individuals. Individuals using 3D printers/automation are not the ones causing labor issues. And people using AI individually are not the issue. It’s the companies. And in fact in both of those situations as well REFUSING to use the technology at all only harms you and your movement. 3D printing can help individual people deal with a few massive factories monopolizing basic things and wiping out the infrastructure we need to make things locally. Refusing to use fossil fuels at all only leads to personal economic issues because society is so structured around them you can’t avoid it realistically. Then AI is causing these open source projects to be bombarded with new code submissions to the point the only possible way they can keep functioning is to use that very AI to try and sort through it all.
The lessons are that the ones we should be fighting are the rich. Policing the actions of individuals is a losing battle and counter productive.

What are you using? Web or some app?

So here’s how I see it: There is a big difference between “AI generated” code and “AI assisted” code. Or just anything.
To put it in terms most people can more understand let’s say you were writing a book. If you have an LLM generate the book its gonna suck and be slop. But if you write the rough draft, then paste it into an LLM and say, “Look through this and find typos and other mistakes and point them out to me”. Then you go and check the things it finds and fix them yourself, that is fine. It’s just a really good spellcheck at that point. Even if you say “suggest a fix” it’s fine. For coding you could even tell it like “Take this line of code and suggest 5 different ways to do the same thing that might work better” then test them all out and see which one you like best.
I have personally used an LLM to help clean up my dotfiles for example. I don’t want to read through all that shit and find the old junk I need to remove or change. So I just throw them at an LLM and have it point things out to me. Or say you know you have a file but don’t know the exact filename. Go into the folder its in and dump the output of ls into an LLM. Tell it what file you need vaguely. Have it read them and give you the correct filename. Then check it yourself.
The problem comes from people who just generate stuff and don’t do the work of double checking it themselves.

Button is right there man
never left baby
I see none of these are very active. I wonder why that is? Maybe if we made one that was very permissive more people would post there? Like a “TechShowcase” one. Since people on Lemmy are less populated and we’d need it to be open to more people so it doesn’t die. Just a comm for anyone who wants to show off some cool thing they did or found online.
