  • Honestly the Nazis were not this Uber competent group. Tons of in-fighting, poor strategic and logistical choices, and they did not run the government nor country in this rigid orderly way that is and was projected by their propaganda.

I would say they had a very good propaganda campaign that’s still ongoing and paying dividends. Once you look under the surface some and start learning more about how the country was governed it becomes clear there was plenty of room for improvement.

I mean, think about it this way, they chose to commit an industrial genocide on a hellacious scale wasting men, material and destroying the soul of a nation. How much more manpower would they have had if they didn’t commit these crimes against humanity and instead had drafted these folks.

Like I know it’s not a great comparison or awesome though experiment and lacking any nuance but I think it makes a point.

  • Totally depends on the store you’re shopping at, foremost. Then secondarily what products you’re buying.

Where I live, self checkout is usually faster but I’ll still go through a regular line periodically. Frankly though I’m just picking up groceries most of the time at this point. It’s easy and if the people grabbing you things have a touch of empathy you get fine looking produce and meats too.

Anyways, you’re right it is definitely heavily dependent on where you live. Hell some places, especially in upper middle class areas, have a lot of the detection shit turned off (like you can actively put wrong weight stuff in or bypass the scans entirely - there’s a chance you may still get flagged but it’ll let you finish the order up before someone comes to put a code in to override it).

I guess if you’re going to commit petty theft I’d suggest you buy a decent outfit from a second hand store and go to a nicer grocery store self checkout.

  • Look I’m not saying Dems are awesome, in fact I would say when it comes to foreign policy them and Republicans are pretty aligned. Behaving like there hasn’t been huge differences in policy, legislation, enforcement priorities, regulation, education and healthcare spending between Democratic and Republican majorities in Congress and/or President is insane though. Like just head in the sand ignoring reality levels of crazy.

  • Nah see my other comment. You don’t own shit on Steam. In fact the agreement specifically says you may need to use the client and be connected to the Internet in order to even play your games. Like if steam shut down tomorrow and just stopped existing it’s very possible they could legally just give you the middle finger and say sucks for you.

IANAL and there’s more to it than just the contract you have with Valve as far as the law goes but the way the contract is written you have no ownership of anything on the platform.

  • The Sony policy is much more shady.

    It’s not.

There’s a lot more in the agreement but this is the start of the licensing part.

Valve hereby grants, and you accept, a non-exclusive license and right, to use the Content and Services for your personal, non-commercial use (except where commercial use is expressly allowed herein or in the applicable Subscription Terms). This license ends upon termination of (a) this Agreement or (b) a Subscription that includes the license. The Content and Services are licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in the Content and Services. To make use of the Content and Services, you must have a Steam Account and you may be required to be running the Steam client and maintaining a connection to the Internet.

    (Emphasis mine)

  • I’m pretty sure that’s only specific states or locales in the USA with liability laws for over serving. But also good luck to the prosecution proving a single bartender or establishment was the reason a person was overly intoxicated. In my non lawyer opinion a simple defense of “idk if she drank more before or after showing up or was on any drugs” would probably be more than enough to give reasonable doubt. But IANAL so maybe I’m off base.

I’ve never actually heard of a case of that being prosecuted in Ohio (where I live and we have laws about overserving customers). I’m sure if I look it up I could find something but it just seems like the sort of thing an AG would have difficulty getting charges to stick.

  • I get it. There’s a lot of propaganda out there (that goes both ways) about China.

For better or worse they’re going to lead the charge into the 2100s, this is the dawn of the new Chinese century and the USA is busy handing them the reins as we implode our country.

I think China is a little friendlier overall in their foreign relations and while freedom of expression is important I would not say their society as a whole is better or worse than all the rest of the world. It feels like sometimes, from what I’ve heard and seen, China is “more” free in certain aspects compared to the USA (and definitely less free in others)

  • I’m not the commenter you replied to but I read their view more along these lines. That no large online video provider gives a good experience and while this is more competition for YouTube it’s kind of like comparing two piles of shit - both stink.

Which idk never used it but yeah China has its own brand of suck compared with the West. Still, I agree it’d be good to have more cultural exchange - that’s the sort of thing that over time leads to better relations between nation states and decreases the likelihood of war.

You know the older I get, the lesson of “there are no good guys” really keeps getting hammered home. This is just a reminder of that.
