7 is quickly going down as the best version of windows of all time. 10 was alright too but it was the beginning of the end

13·3 days agoYeah; you really have to figure out what products are worth your time.
Look up what’s integrated with HomeAssistant locally and that’s a good start.
“IoT via app linked with the manufacturer cloud” is bullshit bullshit bullshit, and there are fewer and fewer choices, especially in America. Try find ing a ZWave door lock, for example.

9·3 days agoThink about the power Microsoft has when they have every business document on earth and an AI that can summarize vast quantities of them on an ongoing basis.
They’re taking control of free markets, of political movements.

8·3 days agoIf we can’t store or compute anything, we will be reliant on those with that power. Cloud providers. They will suck up all our data, analyze it with their AI, and charge us for the privilege.
They are forcing us to rent from them their ability to watch us and predict us.
Welcome to the global panopticon.
I thought that the 3d was pretty cool on the 3DS! Now I can’t find my New3DS XL, now that they’re apparently quite jailbreakable…
Well, on the flip side, my first smartphone was a Palm Prē, and I even installed the custom kernel to overclock it.
Still have it in a box somewhere too. That was such a great phone.
Now webOS is used by LG to spy on their smart TV customers.

Technology@lemmy.world•Copilot could soon live inside Windows 11's File Explorer, as Microsoft tests Chat with Copilot in Explorer, not just in a separate appEnglish
4·5 days agoThat’s the goal.
No more personal computer. Only dumb terminal and cloud. You will rent your needs from the rich. You will own nothing and like it. Your income is their revenue stream, or you shall cease to function in society.
This is robbery.

13·5 days agoIt’s really sad to me that everyone sees this as just an annoying superfluous feature.
Doesn’t anyone else see why Microsoft is so fucking horny for this???
It’s a fucking panopticon! They’re trying to look at everything you produce and save (OneDrive) and now they’re trying to get their hands on what you think (what you ask Copilot) and the conclusions you come to (Copilot’s generated response).
They can know and control anything they want. Imagine how deep that goes? This is way beyond fucking banner ads. This is about picking and choosing winners in the global economy. This is about knowing who will fall before they do and hedging. This is about industrial espionage and being first to market. This is about silencing all political dissidents before they even speak publicly. This is true, actual, corporate dystopian shit. This is Minority Report but janky, and privatized.
This needs to be stopped.

13·5 days agoImagine knowing what every user is doing? What they read, what they play? What pictures they take? What websites they prefer? Where they get their news? Who they speak with? Their social graph? Where they shop? How often? What their finances look like? Who they work for? What they do for them? How connected they are? How that company is doing? What their quarterly report look like before they make it public? What their plans are for those upcoming layoffs? Who they do business with for importing? What the next big thing they’re designing is?
What Microsoft is attempting to do is to create a planned economy that only benefits the rich. They’re trying to do the thing they always complain is bad about Communism, but do it in a way that gives the rich people control.
We are living in a trap and Microsoft must be eradicated from all computers and networks. OpenAI too.
Found the guy who falls for this

This is the kind of low-tier thinking that got us here in the first place.
